When I get asked what sells on eBay, I have to say, "Anything!" It's the truth. I've been selling on eBay for 10 years and it boggles the mind all the crazy things that I have sold. Of course there are the best sellers or hot sellers on eBay, but you know what, there's a ton of competition. Of course, something like iPods are very popular, but there are thousands of them for sale.
It's fine to try to sell in categories that are overrun with product, but unless you really know what you are doing, it is going to be tough to make money. I've found the best things to sell are the one of a kind or hard to find items.
Sometimes you can find good deals on eBay, buy it and resell it for the right price. Sometimes people will put too low of a buy it now price, or they will put something in the wrong category so few people will find it. One of the classics for finding great deals is when a seller misspells a word in the description.
The thing to keep in mind is that as long as an item is not banned from sale on eBay there is a good chance it will sell. Probably the best way to find out if your idea will sell on eBay is do a search for the item and look in the sold item section. In the sold or ended item section you will see how much your item has been selling for in the last two weeks.
